The Pershing County girls soccer team hosted two league games this past week.
They lost to Incline 4-2 and North Tahoe 8-0 but scored two goals against Incline bringing their total to eight so far this season.
The Mustangs now stand at 1-5, overall, and 1-4 in the Northern 2A.
“We had a great game against Incline. It was back and forth the first half,” Matt Fuller said.
Miya Gallagher scored the first goal off a free kick from Yasmin Acosta. Lovelock was down 2-0 when Acosta got the ball over the defense. Gallagher trapped it and blasted it past the goalie.
Next, Acosta took the ball from an Incline player and fired a 30-yard shot over the goalie’s outreached hands.
“She took a far shot and it went right in,” said Gallagher.
The JV football team, practicing in the adjacent field, let out a war cry. The half ended tied at two. However, in the second half Incline scored two goals off some corner kicks Pershing County was unable to match.
“Overall, we played well. We fixed some of the mistakes that have been hurting us. We are looking forward to seeing Incline again,” Fuller said. The Mustangs travel to Incline on Friday, Oct. 14.
First, they’ll have a busy Homecoming Week. They host Battle Mountain on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Yerington on Saturday at 11 a.m.
