The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team picked up its first Northern 2A victory of the year, with a four-set triumph this past Friday in West Wendover.
The Lady Longhorns easily claimed the first set 25-12, but the Wolverines bounced back to even the match, winning set two 25-19.
The third set went back-and-forth, as Battle Mountain escaped with the 27-25 win.
The Lady Longhorns earned the victory, knocking off the Wolverines 25-19 in the fourth set to improve to 1-2 in league play.
Junior Olivia Lemaire picked 13 of Battle Mountain’s 19 kills, as Cristina Holley added five and Shea Jones one.
The Lady Longhorns had 14 aces on the night, with six of those from Lauryn Avey. Jones added three aces, Lilliana Haney two and Emely Farias, Heidy Amezcua and Holley each had one.
Holley and Farias had one block apiece and Amezcua dished out 14 assists.
Battle Mountain is back on the road on Thursday in Lovelock to play Pershing County at 5 p.m. The Lady Longhorns are in Reno on Saturday to take on Coral Academy at noon.
Battle Mountain is back on its home floor on Friday, Sept. 30, to play Silver Stage and Saturday, Oct. 1, to face Yerington.
