What has been a common occurrence in the northern Nevada and California areas the past couple years, smoke from fires forced the cancelation and postponing of high school events.
Smoke for the Mosquito Fire in California moved into the Lake Tahoe area on Friday, a spot where a number of Lowry High School teams were scheduled to compete.
The Lowry football team was set to play at South Tahoe on Friday night but the game was canceled on Friday afternoon.
Administration at Lowry noted they offered a number of options to South Tahoe to play the game at other locations on different dates, but South Tahoe declined.
With no similar open dates, the rest of the year, the game will unlikely be made up.
The Lowry boys soccer team was scheduled to play in Truckee on Friday but that game was postponed due to the smoke.
The teams will attempt to make up the match. The Buckaroos did travel to Reno on Saturday to play the Reno Huskies.
The Lowry girls soccer team had its match with Sparks on Wednesday, Sept. 7, postponed because Sparks could not get transportation to Winnemucca.
The Lady Bucks were to host Truckee on Friday, but the California school did not let the Wolverines travel to Winnemucca.
Those matches will be attempted to be rescheduled if possible.
The Lowry and Battle Mountain cross country teams had their meet in Tahoe City, Calif., canceled because of the smoke.
They are scheduled to compete in the Reed Invitational in Sparks on Friday.
