Pershing County flattens Incline

This past Friday night, the Pershing County High School football team hosted Incline for the first home football game of the year.

The spirit squad had a lot to shout about. The Mustangs won the Northern 2A contest 40-0.

“We were looking forward to playing Incline. The last two times we played them have been close games,” said PCHS coach Mike Brooks.

In the first quarter, Luis Sanchez intercepted an Incline pass. Noel Zaldivar made a 2-yard touchdown rush and caught the conversion.

The senior running back wasn’t done yet.

Before the final buzzer he scored four more times - including two punt returns, a 50-yard rush, a catch and two 2-point conversions.

As always, it was a team effort.

According to the coach, Sanchez played his best game of the year so far. Jacob Burke excelled on offense.

In addition Wyatt Diaz played well on both sides of the ball. In the closing moments of the game Tyrn Sam rushed for 30 yards and made the 2-point conversion.

“We were happy with the effort of our kids and were able to make some huge plays to gain momentum,” Brooks said.

This Friday the Mustangs host Silver Stage for a league match-up. It will be the Nighthawks’ first game of the year. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
