PCHS crushes Dayton

On Friday the Pershing County High School football team rebounded from its loss to Portola.

The Mustangs beat Dayton 42-6, as they traveled to Dayton for the non-league match-up.

Noel Zaldivar started things off with two touchdowns. Early on, he rushed for four yards.

Later, the senior RB rushed for twenty. Meanwhile, Pershing’s D-Line blinded the Dust Devils. The first quarter ended at 12-0.

Dayton managed a three-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter but that was the last time they got by the Mustangs all night.

Meanwhile, Pershing County’s Izayuh Mcglothin scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown. His rush for the two-point conversion brought the halftime score to 20-6.

The third quarter ended in a scoreless stalemate. But the Mustangs went wild in the fourth quarter. Travis Donaldson rushed for three yards and passed the ball to Eddie Herrera for the 2-point conversion.

Zaldivar intercepted a Dayton pass and rushed for 52 yards. Donaldson passed to Kaden Chambers for the 2-point conversion. Izayuh Mcglothin intercepted a Dayton pass. Blake Burrows rushed for three yards, ending the game at 42-6.

“We were happy with how the kids played and were able to correct a lot of mistakes from the previous week. We also found new ones to correct. We were happy with how Jacob Burke and Russell Stokes played in the offensive line. Well, we were happy with how they played on both sides of the ball. Tyrn Sam had a nice night running the ball,” Mike Brooks said.

This Friday, the Mustangs begin league play against Incline.

They will host the Highlanders at 4:30 p.m. (JV) and 7 p.m. (varsity).

Incline currently has an 0-2 record with a 21-6 loss against the Sparks Railroaders and a 45-0 loss against St. Vincent de Paul.

Friday will be their first league game of the year.
