Lady Longhorns drop five-set match to Bobcats in Ely

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team hit the road to Ely this past Friday night for a non-conference match-up with White Pine. 

The match went back-and-forth, with the Bobcats winning the last two sets to claim the victory.

Battle Mountain easily won the first set 25-12, but White Pine turned the tables on the Lady Longhorns and even the match with the same 25-12 win in the second set.

Battle Mountain bounced back to win set three, 25-16, however White Pine won the fourth set 25-21 and held on for the 15-12 victory in the fifth and deciding set.

Cristina Holley and Shea Jones each had three kills for the Lady Longhorns. Galileah Benavides and Olivia Lemaire had two kills apiece and Lilliana Haney added one kill.

Battle Mountain had 11 aces on the night, with five of those coming from Jones and three more from Heidy Amezcua. 

Emely Farias had two aces and Haney, Benavides and Holley had one ace apiece. In addition, Holley collected four blocks at the net.

Battle Mountain starts Northern 2A play this weekend in Lake Tahoe, starting on Friday in Incline. 

The Lady Longhorns move on to Tahoe City, Calif., on Saturday to play North Tahoe.
