After playing six matches in two days at the Yerington tournament, the Lowry High School volleyball team was back on the road on Wednesday, Aug. 31, this time to take on Truckee, the defending 3A state champion.
After a slow start in which Truckee won the first set 25-15.
Lowry rallied in the final set to knock off the Wolverines 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18. The Lady Bucks improved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Savannah Stoker scored the first two points for Lowry with a tip and a kill and Emma Gray and Kailey Franklin added kills later in the opening set to tie it up at 8-8.
The Wolverines grabbed a 13-10 advantage in set one, when Megan Cook finished off a block to cut the deficit to two points.
Lowry got no closer, as Truckee opened up a 19-13 advantage and closed out the set on a 6-2 run.
It was a much different story in the second set, as the Lady Bucks scored the first nine points, behind two blocks from Stoker and a pair of aces by Cook.
Cambria Tisue added a kill later in the second set and Gray tipped the ball in the open net to push the Lowry lead to 17-7.
A kill by Alexis Galarza kept the Lowry lead at 10 points at 22-12 and the Lady Bucks tied the match at 1-1 when Truckee served the ball in the net for the winning point.
Gray picked up a tip in the open floor and a kill and Tisue added a kill early in the third set to give Lowry an 8-4 advantage. The Lady Bucks saw a 13-8 lead shrink to two points, forcing them to call a timeout.
After the break in the action, the Lady Bucks bounced back with a kill from Stoker and a tip by Galarza.
Truckee stayed within striking distance and forced another Lowry timeout at 18-17. The Lady Bucks came out of the break with six of the next eight points, which included kills from Gray and Franklin.
Lowry opened the fourth set with an ace by Cook and a kill from Stoker and never trailed.
The Lady Bucks scored five of the first seven points of the fourth set, but saw the lead trimmed to 12-10.
However, Lowry went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-10 and Franklin finished off the match with s tip and kill on the final point.
Lowry traveled to Wooster on Tuesday for a Western 3A crossover match and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Bucks play Sparks on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and make their home debut on Saturday at noon against Hug.
