It was a great day to say farewell to five grads-to-be. Last Saturday, the Mustang soccer team won their senior day game.

The Mustangs hosted West Wendover and beat them 4-1.

“We felt happy taking a win for our last game in front of the home crowd and glad we won it for our seniors. We are thankful to have a good season and play with great coaches,” said junior co-captain Miya Gallagher.

On Tuesday, the Mustangs traveled to Yerington. Results were not available at press time.

With the win, Pershing stands at 5-10 overall and 5-9 in the 2A Northern league.

Mustangs bounce back from deficit for league win

West Wendover scored the first goal in the first half. The Mustangs could not get past their defense to score a goal. However, the second half was a different story.

First, Yasmin Acosta scored for the Mustangs on an assist from Valerie Franco.

To break the tie, Lily Burt scored off a corner kick from Acosta. But Burt didn’t stop there.

She scored again on a corner kick from Cora Trowbridge. They were the first goals of Burt’s high school years. The sophomore goalie and halfback has two years to go.

Finally, Gallagher scored Pershing’s fourth goal on another corner kick from Trowbridge. Meanwhile, West Wendover was unable to get past Pershing’s defense in the second half. Pershing pulled off the win and brought their total number of goals to 21.

Pershing County said farewell to five grads-to-be.

They included Rylee Renfroe, Cora Trowbridge, Julie Chandler, Jillian Bridges and Hannah Gonzalez. Each athlete stepped onto the field with their families and celebrated with balloons and flowers.

On Friday, Pershing County travels to Whittell. The game begins at 2 p.m.
