Robert Dale Walsh passed away on October 15, 2022 at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada.
He was born on July 24, 1929 in Bellevue, Nebraska. He was one of eight children born to Ollie and Elsie Walsh.
He grew up in Nebraska prior to enlisting in the United States Navy in 1947.
He served 20 years in the Navy, including 2 years on the Battleship USS Iowa (BB-61), and the destroyer USS Mansfield (DD-728) during the Korean War.
He then transferred landside and was stationed all over the United States and in Italy.
While stationed in San Diego he met a sweet girl named June Sigmon at a rollerskating Rink.
He was the best skater there that night and was impressing them all. June tried setting Bob up with her best friend but Bob only had eyes for June.
They dated for two weeks before they were married on February 28, 1954. They were called crazy for their fast marriage but the two knew they were meant to be.
They shared just shy of 65 years together; traveling the world, raising children, loving grand and great-grandchildren, and sharing the most precious times together.
Even after he was married he was an avid roller skater. He could dance while wearing skates, and loved to “boogie”.
His teenaged kids loved their Friday nights at the Roller Rink with their “cool dad”. Afterwards they would go get a Foster Freeze or sometimes pizza.
Bob and June were involved in car clubs for many years. They had two Mustangs, a 1964 Coupe and a 1964 ½ Convertible.
Their traveling around to car shows and his being involved in a car club led to him helping start Hot August Nights in Reno in 1986.
While living in Bend, Oregon, Bob would make birdhouses and hang them from the trees in the forest for the birds, or for people to take and enjoy at home. He had a giving soul and would always do things just because.
Bob and June settled in Shady Cove, Oregon for 20 years. During this time, they became very involved in the Loyal Order of Moose. They were members of Upper Rogue Moose Lodge #2480.
Bob held many offices in the Moose organization, including being elected Oregon Deputy Supreme Governor in 2013.
He was presented as a Pilgrim in the Moose organization on August 17, 2013.
He was an amazing storyteller, an avid traveler and the best dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. His stories of his time in Italy were favorites to tell.
He always made sure to stop and talk with those who served in our Armed Forces and thank them for their service to our country to his family.
He is survived by his children; Roberta Hayden, Randy Walsh and Cheryl Heichel.
His grandchildren; Jeremy Jefferson, Nicole Harwood, Amanda Arispe, Amber Botos and Todd Walsh and his great-grandchildren; Savannah Thompson, Leland Thompson, Irisa Harwood, Kalina Harwood and Vance Jefferson and one living sister, Lois Stark.
He is preceded in death by his wife, June Walsh, his daughter, Lisa Monarch, his parents and six of his seven siblings.
