Erquiaga places in multiple categories for sports coverage —

Assistant Editor/Sports Editor Tony Erquiaga submitted pieces of his writing to the 2022 Nevada Better Newspaper Contest and placed in two different categories. For “Multiple Photo Essay or Gallery” Erquiaga placed second for his coverage of State Basketball. The judge commented: “As with the first place winner, a good variety of images. Good reaction and emotion.” In the “Best Sports Spot News Story”, Erquiaga got the coveted first-place win with his story on the state Cross Country championships. The judge commented: “This story included a succinct introduction that used just a few words to provide historical context for readers. The reporter showed the ability to key in on the newsworthy aspects of the event without including too many of the unnecessary details that can bog down a sports story, particularly a recap.” Congratulations, Tony!
