Lady Bucks tie Greenwave, lose to Wolverines

The Lowry High School girls soccer team remained in postseason contention with a 1-1 tie against Churchill County on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Fallon.

The Greenwave led 1-0 at halftime, but the Lady Bucks picked up the equalizing goal in the second half a shot by Alia Novi and an assist by Britain Backus.

The tie left Lowry at 4-1-1 in the Northern 3A East, with four league matches yet to be played.

Elko is atop the league at 6-0-1 and Spring Creek is 5-1-1.

The way the postseason is set up, it is likely the playoff spots for the Northern 3A East will be two at the most

The Northern 3A West and East champions get in the playoffs, followed by the next four best records.

Those next three best records belong to Northern 3A West teams.

Truckee 7, Lowry 1

Lowry hosted Truckee this past Thursday in a crossover match that was postponed earlier in the year.

The Wolverines scored in the 6th minute on their way to a 7-1 victory.

Truckee tacked on a goal in the 37th minute, when Lowry cut the deficit in half off a close-distance shot from Sydnee Pettis.

The Lady Bucks could not keep the momentum, as the Wolverines scored on the final play of the first half on a free kick in extra time.

Lowry had its chances in the early portion of the second half off of free kicks by Novi and Maite Avalos but could not convert those chances into scoring opportunities.

Truckee took a 4-1 advantage in the second half, scoring off a crossing pass from the right side of the box.

Avalos had a chance to trim the lead to two goals a couple minutes later off a breakaway opportunity but her shot went wide of the goal.

The Wolverines came back three minutes later to add to their lead and then scored twice more in the final eight minutes.

The Lady Bucks are now 6-7-2 overall and 0-4-1 in crossover matches with the Northern 3A West.

Lowry is busy with three home matches this week, starting on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. against Sparks.

Dayton visits Winnemucca on Friday for a 3:45 p.m. start and Fernley rounds out the weekend on Saturday at 11:45 a.m.
