The McDermitt High School volleyball team split a pair of Northern 1A East matches this past weekend at home.
The Lady Bulldogs beat Carlin 25-19, 25-16, 25-12 on Friday to complete the season sweep of the Railroaders.
McDermitt hosted Jackpot on Saturday and lost 25-21, 25-20, 27-25 and are now 2-6 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Against Jackpot, McDermitt came out on a hot streak with nine of the first 10 points of the opening set. Cierra Smart started off the run with a hit in the open floor, Breena Crutcher added a kill and Nicolette Northrup had two aces.
The Jaguars rallied to tie the set for different times at 12, 13, 14 and 15, before taking the lead for good at 16-15. Jackpot extended the advantage to 20-17, when Palmer stopped the run with a tip but Jackpot went on to claim the win.
Northrup opened the second set with an ace for the Lady Bulldogs, only to see the Jaguars score the next five points.
McDermitt picked up a tip form Vina Tom and a kill by Northrup to keep the set tied at 9-9, when Jackpot scored the next seven points.
Taylor Killsback stopped the run with a kill but McDermitt never cut the lead under three points and Jackpot won the second set off an ace.
The third set went back-and-forth with no team leading by more than four points.
The Lady Bulldogs collected a kill and ace from Tom to remain in striking distance.
Trailing 23-19, McDermitt got consecutive kills from Crutcher and Tom to close the gap to 23-22. The Lady Bulldogs missed their next serve to give the Jaguars match point but hey couldn’t convert and McDermitt came back to tie set at 24 off a kill by Northrup.
Jackpot led 25-24 but a serving error kept the match going at 25 all, when the Jaguars scored the final two points for the victory.
McDermitt travels to Wells on Saturday and closes out the regular season at home on Thursday, Oct. 27, against Owyhee in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. It will also be homecoming week.
