No matter the score, the Pershing County girls soccer team works hard.
On Friday they traveled to Reno to play Sage Ridge.
The Scorpions beat the Mustangs 10-2.
This past Saturday Pershing County hosted Whittell. The Warriors came out on top 5-0.
“Sage Ridge was solid on offense and are a tough team to beat,” coach Matt Fuller said.
The Mustangs added two goals to their record, bringing their seasonal total to 16. They scored both goals in the first half.
For Pershing’s first goal, Miya Gallagher (#2) dribbled past a couple of Sage Ridge defenders and blasted a shot past their goal keeper.
Next, Yasmin Acosta took a loose ball in the penalty box and flew by a Sage Ridge defender to score.
“We played Whittell hard in the first half, getting off a few shots. The ladies moved the ball around well, but we did not put the ball in the back of the net. Whittell had some great shooters that could score from far out. It was a good game - just not the outcome we were looking for,” Fuller said.
With the losses, Pershing County stands at 3-8 overall and 3-7 in the Northern 2A. On Wednesday, the Mustangs played Battle Mountain (1-6) on the road.
Results were not available at press time. The Mustangs travel to Incline (5-3-1) on Friday and North Tahoe (10-0) on Saturday.
They’ll be home again on Saturday, Oct. 22, to host West Wendover (0-11).
