Yerington knocks off Pershing County
“The girls were super-pumped because it was Yerington’s homecoming game. However, we came out flat in the first set with no energy. Yerington’s first couple of servers were on fire and we could not set up an offensive play to save us,” coach Monica Halverson said. “My team fought hard but just wasn’t mentally in the game.”
The last two sets were close with long rallies and dramatic saves by both sides.
The crowd went wild as the Lions and Mustangs fought for each point.
Kaydance Happy led the attack with 12 kills and seven digs. Kaylen Halverson led the digs with 21 digs and eight assists.
Taylor Garland added four aces, one back row attack kill, and 17 digs. Aaliyah Allen contributed two solo blocks and three digs.
PCHS defeats
Silver Stage
With the Mustangs favored to beat Silver Stage, the coach changed up the lineup. She tries to give the players opportunities to grow by playing new positions. Andrea Canchola played libero while Taylor Garland hit at the net.
“Taylor is good at all positions, so putting her in different spots is strategic and sound. Raegan Burrows stepped in as setter in the second set and did awesomely. She has beautiful hands and works well with her teammates,” Halverson said.
“Silver Stage fought hard but didn’t have any subs to mix up their strategy. They scored points on our inability to communicate and play as a team. We played tough the first set and sailed through the rest of the game,” she added.
Yasmine McKinney had one ace, three kills and one dig.
KayLee Poffenroth added one kill and one dig. Raegan Burrows contributed three ace serves, seven kills and four assists. Andrea Canchola played solid defense with an impressive 20 digs.
Katie Moore had two digs. Anna Happy added an ace, one kill, 10 assists and eight digs. Morgan Swindlehurst had three digs.
