Lowry girls soccer rallies to beat Spring Creek, defeated by Elko

After getting off to a slow start against Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Lowry High School girls soccer team rallied in the second half for a much needed 4-1 victory in the Northern 3A East.

The victory moved the Lady Bucks ahead of the Spartans in the standings.

The only spots guaranteed in the Northern 3A Regional Championships are the winners of the East and West divisions.

The other four spots are based on the best records between the two divisions. It is possible the Northern 3A West could have five playoff teams and just the East champion move on.

Against Spring Creek, the Spartans claimed a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute scoring off a free kick from about 25 yards out that got over the head of goalie Cleo Fowler.

The sophomore was solid from there and held Spring Creek scoreless with seven saves on the day.

Lowry tied the match at 1-1 in the 52nd minute off a shot by Sydnee Pettis and the Lady Bucks took the lead for good eight minutes later, as Viviana Alanis put back a shot that was previously saved by the Spartan back into the net.

Pettis notched her second goal of the day in the 65th minute, as she took a pass from Maite Avalos and found the back of the net.

Freshman Natalya Guizar finished off the scoring in the 79th steal after a steal and she got the ball past the Spring Creek goalie.

Guizar also had an assist as dis Britain Backus.

Elko 6, Lowry 1

Lowry traveled to Northern 3A East leader Elko on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 6-1 loss.

Elko is 4-1-1 in league play, with a 2-2 tie to Spring Creek and Lowry is 4-1-0.

The Indians scored three goals in each half, with Pettis scoring the lone goal for the Lady Bucks off an assist by Bryce Brinkerhoff.

Lowry began the second half of Northern 3A East play on Tuesday with a road trip to Fallon to play Churchill County. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Bucks host Truckee on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. in a crossover match with the Wolverines.

Truckee is third in the Northern 3A West at 3-1-1, behind South Tahoe (4-1) and Hug (3-0-1).

Lowry is off this weekend and hosts Dayton on Friday, Oct. 21 at 3:45 p.m. and Fernley on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11:45 a.m.
