The Lowry High School football team dropped its second game in the Northern 3A East after a road trip to Fernley this past Friday.
The Vaqueros scored two quick touchdowns on their way to a 41-14 win over the Buckaroos. Lowry dropped to 1-2 in the Northern 3A East at 5-2 overall.
Turnovers plagued Lowry in the early going, fumbling the opening kickoff of the contest. The Vaqueros quickly turned it into seven points with a 29-yard touchdown run.
The Buckaroos were poised to tie the game on their next possession but fumbled inside the Vaquero 20-yard line to stop the momentum.
One play later, Fernley scored on a 77-yard run to make the score 14-0 with 8:55 left in the first quarter.
After the long drive in the first quarter, Lowry turned the ball over on downs and punted on three more possessions in the first half. Fernley added to its lead with three minutes left in the first half on a 5-yard run.
The Buckaroos attempted an onside kick to start the second half, which was unsuccessful and the Vaqueros drove 51 yards to increase the advantage to 28-0.
Lowry made it interesting midway through the second half and cut the deficit in half with a pair of scores. The first touchdown came in the third quarter on a 9-yard pass from Jordan Bills to Lance Brinegar.
With just 45 seconds gone in the fourth quarter, Bills broke free for a 39-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-14. That was as close as the Buckaroos got.
Fernley scored o its next possession to push the advantage back to three scores and after an interception, the Vaqueros finished the scoring with a 21-yard run.
Lowry will be back on its home field this Friday for homecoming to play Spring Creek at 7 p.m.
