The McDermitt High School volleyball team was back in action this past weekend with a pair of Northern 1A East matches.

The Lady Bulldogs made the long trip to Eureka on Friday to finish the season series with the Vandals and lost in three sets 25-12, 25-22 and 25-9.

McDermitt made the quick turnaround on Saturday afternoon and hosted Wells. 

The match was delayed about 30 minutes, as the Leopards were stuck in traffic, as US95 is currently under construction near McDermitt. 

The Leopards made the road trip count with a 25-21, 25-16 and 25-23 win. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in league play.

The first set went back-and-forth with McDermitt grabbing a 14-12 lead after back-to-back aces by Taylor Killsback. 

The advantage grew to 18-12 after a kill by Breena Crutcher and another ace by Killsback.

Wells called a timeout and the momentum shifted from there, as the Leopards battled back with nine straight points to go in front 21-18. 

The run stopped with a serving error by Wells. The Leopards scored the next three points after the service error to claim the set.

The Lady Bulldogs scored for of the first five points in the second set, led by a kill from Nicolette Northrup. 

Wells came back to tie the second set at 7-7, when McDermitt went back in front on the next point off an ace by Crutcher.

The set was tied once more at 11, when the Leopards went on a 13-4 run to pull away for the victory.  

Wells took that momentum into the third set and led 7-3 but McDermitt did not go away. Aided by a kill from Crutcher a couple serving errors by Wells, the third set was tied at 19. 

The Leopards used an ace to go in front 21-19, but McDermitt fought back with a by Vina Tom and tip by Alexis Scott to tie the set at 22. 

Wells had match point at 24-22 but missed a serve, however they won the match on the next point with a kill.

McDermitt will look for the season sweep of Carlin on Friday, as they host the Railroaders at 3:30 p.m.

Jackpot visits McDermitt on Saturday for an 11 a.m. start.
