Obituary: James Owen Frei

James Owen Frei, was born in St George, Utah, on April 11, 1942. 

He was a resident of Winnemucca, NV, and went to his final rest October 22, 2021. 

Jim and his wife, Yvonne, had 3 sons – Vaughn, James, and Christopher.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and LaVere Frei. 

He leaves behind his sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings – Claudette, Kerri, Kathy, and Ron, which he loved greatly.  

He lived an active & full life.  Jim served in the United States Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Navy Seabee’s during the Vietnam Conflict.  

He worked as a Police Officer in 1963 to 1967 in Henderson, NV, then went to work for the NHP as a Trooper/Supervisor from 1967 to 1978.  

For 3 years he worked for Thunderbird Furniture with the students because his boys chose to go to Milo Academy, at Milo, Oregon.  He then went to work for Pinson Mining where he was the Security Officer/Safety/Fire Chief/Pilot.  

He was involved in the Search and Rescue Team of Northern Nevada and Wyoming; taught MSHA from 1982; was appointed to Humboldt County LEPC (Local Emergency Planning Commission) 1987; Humboldt County Volunteer Ambulance Corps as an EMT II in 1983; then was Northern Nevada State Mine Inspector till retirement.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and volunteering for his community.  

He hit home runs for his local City Baseball League and was also a Little League Baseball Coach and Umpire.  

He was also involved with the church Pathfinders Youth Group.

When he retired, he devoted his life to volunteering with the SDA Maranatha Projects, building & repairing schools & churches worldwide.

He is missed by his family and all who knew and loved him, and we sincerely appreciate all the great support from family and friends.

A Celebration of Life is being held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5130 E. Palisade Drive, Winnemucca, Nevada on October 22, 2022 at 3:30 pm.  

All are welcome who want to attend and share memories.
