The Battle Mountain High School cross country team made its way through Northern Nevada last week with two meets.
The week started out in Sparks on Tuesday, Sept. 27, for the Reed Invitational at Shadow Mountain Park.
The meet was postponed earlier in the year due to smoke in the area. The Northern 1A/2A Regional Championships will take place later in October at Shadow Mountain Park.
Freshman Eli Colver finished 46th in the race with a time of 22:56, while teammate and fellow freshman Sean Doney placed 5snd at 23:42. Reed’s Gabriel Weaver won the race at 17:35 and Reno’s Cael Mattioli (17:49) was second. Galena beat Spanish Springs by two points 36-38 for the team title.
In the girls race, freshman Ivy Peterson placed 44th with a time of 21:16 and senior Lilly Peterson was 46th, stopping the clock at 36:34.
Galena’s Eleanor Raker won the race at 20:36 and teammate Alyssa Bronander was second at 20:53. Galena won the team title with 35 points and Spanish Springs was second at 41.
This past Friday, Battle Mountain competed in the Run the Rubies Elko Invitational at Camp Lamoille. Doney placed 18th in the boys varsity race with a time of 22:33.9.
Elko’s Braylon Baggett won with a time of 17:36 and Lowry’s Ivan Lara (19:08) placed second.
Battle Mountain travels to Winnemucca on Friday for the Lowry Invitational at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course. Racing begins at 2 p.m.
