The Pershing County High School boys basketball team is ready to play some hoop.
Last season they said farewell to three seniors - Ashton Nolf, Esteban Vidrio and Diego Gonzalez. But there’s no shortage of talent on the 2022-23 team.
This year Noel Zaldivar (12), a power forward, returns as the only senior on the 11-man roster.
The returning juniors are Connor Fecht (10), Eduardo Herrera (14), Aaron Kienbaum (24) and Marshall Happy (50).
Kienbaum received a 2A Honorable Mention last year.
The sophomores include Izayuh McGlothin (2), Money Mike Reitz (4), Luis Sanchez (20), Kaden Chambers (30) and Travis Donaldson (32).
Freshman Taylor Montes (22) will play his first year of high school basketball.
At last year’s Winter Sports Awards the coaches named Reitz the Offensive Player of the Year. Izayuh McGlothin was MVP. Donaldson made the All Conference League, 2nd Team.
The Mustangs are about to get a season full of experience. Pershing County start tournament play with the Serpent Classic from Thursday through Saturday in Hawthorne.
The Mustangs play at the Whittell Tournament from Dec 8-10 and hosts Pyramid Lake on Dec. 15.
