Lowry High School senior Ivan Lara placed 15th at the NIAA 3A State Cross Country Championships held this past Saturday at Veterans Park in Boulder City.
Lara finished with a time of 17 minutes, 47 seconds, in his final race for the Buckaroos. He was the only Lowry runner at the state championships.
Spring Creek junior Nathan Thomas won the individual state title with a time of 16:21.
Elko’s Braylon Baggett (16:29) was second and North Valley’s Austin Key (16:31), Somerset Academy Sky Pointe’s Jack Medina (16:38.3) and Spring Creek’s Joel Herman (16:38.8) rounded out the top five individuals.
Spring Creek won the team title with 35 points and Somerset Academy Sky Pointe was second with 81 points.
It was the sixth state title for the Spartans, which is the sixth most in state history. Lowry has nine titles, the third most in Nevada.
In the girls race, Virgin Valley’s Jenna Walters won the state championship in a time of 19:58. Spring Creek’s Kiely Munson was second at 20:02, followed by South Tahoe’s Lyla Landy (20:03), Elko’s Reese Hatch (20:10) and Somerset Academy Sky Pointe’s Kennedy Cox (20:43).
Somerset Academy Sky Pointe won its first cross country state championship with 51 points.
Spring Creek was second at 68 and Elko (70), South Tahoe (89) and Truckee 117) rounded out the top five.
Spring Creek had won the previous four state championships.
Shadow Ridge won the boys 5A team title and Faith Lutheran's Logan Scott was in the individual champion at 16:07.
Carson won the girls 5A team championship and Galena's Eleanor Raker won the individual title at 18:26.
Bishop Gorman claimed the 4A boys crown and Bishop Gormna's Jordan Keeisberger was the individual winner in a time of 16:43. Desert Oasis won the girls 4A team championship and Desert Oasis' Noemie Guechida was the individual champion at 21:01.
North Tahoe won the boys 2A team title and Incline's Noah McMahan was the individual winner with a time of 16:43.
North Tahoe also won the girls team title in the 2A and North Tahoe's Britta Johnson was the individual winner at 20:24.
