Obituary: Michele Lynd Gerhard “Shelly”

Michele Lynd Gerhard “Shelly” passed away on October 28, 2022, at her home in Winnemucca, Nevada.

Shelly was born on January 16, 1962. She was born and raised in California.

She graduated high school in 1980 and attended cosmetology school shortly after. She married Donald Gerhard on March 19, 1983.

The two shared 39 years and three children; Donald, Cody, and Kali. Their marriage was filled with much laughter, memories and love.

In 1996, the family moved to Winnemucca, Nevada. Shelly had a passion for writing and publishing.

She worked for Humboldt Sun in the advertising department for many years in the early 2000s until she bought Community Living Magazine.

This gave her the opportunity to focus on her passion and creativity, giving Northern Nevadans a place to share their lifestyle and passions right alongside her.

Shelly loved her family immensely; she enjoyed any time she could spend with them. She especially loved the outdoors with her grandbabies, fishing, trips to the ocean, and rock collecting.

She was a fabulous cook; her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. She would spend months preparing for her large family gathering, this year she was anticipating over 40 people for Thanksgiving Dinner.

She always gave the best hugs, she loved unconditionally and made everyone feel like family. She had plenty of room at the table for all her children’s and grandchildren’s friends.

You were never a stranger in the Gerhard home. Her door was always open for a hug, a laugh, a meal or just a chat.

Those who had the privilege of loving her will always feel right at home with her in their hearts.

Shelly is survived by her husband Donald Gerhard.

Her children, Donald (Amber) Gerhard, Cody (Roanne) Gerhard, Kali Gerhard, and Jenny (Danny) Mason. Her grandchildren, Mia, Audry, Nevaeh, Saige, Haidyn, Bentley, Alija, Emma, Oaklee, Colt, Garrett and Tuff.

She is also survived by her father, John Hitchcock, brother, Gilbert (Susan) Hitchcock, and sisters, Wendy (David) Deakins and Becca Cicchetti.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Emmetta Hitchcock and her brother, Ronald Lowder.

A Celebration of Life was held on November 5, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center East Hall.

A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Gerhard Residence.
