The Lowry High School volleyball team is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2017 when it won the Northern 3A Regional Championships and advanced to the state championships.
The Lady Bucks finished the regular season on a high note with three sets sweeps of Spring Creek and Elko.
Lowry traveled to Spring Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 25, and won 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 to avenge a five-set loss to the Spartans in Winnemucca.
The Lady Bucks closed out the regular season this past Thursday night against Elko, as Lowry said goodbye to seven seniors on senior night.
Lowry cruised to a 25-14, 25-20 and 25-20 win to end the regular season at 6-4 in the Northern 3A East and 19-8 overall.
This past Thursday, Elko scored the first point of the match, only to see Lowry strike for six straight points off a kill by Savannah Stoker and two aces from Kailey Franklin.
Stoker and Emma Gray added kills in the set as well but the Indians rallied to close the gap to 8-7.
That was as close as Elko got as Lowry went on a 12-1 run to go in front 20-8, capped off by a pair of kills from Stoker.
The Lady Bucks finished the sett off with a block at the net.
With the second set tied at 4-4, Lowry reeled off the next three points, beginning with a block from Emma Gray, a kill from Stoker and an ace by Gray.
Lowry led by as many as five points 13-8, when Elko tied the set at 13 and 14.
Each time it was tied, Stoker gave Lowry the lead back with a kill. The Lady Bucks held a slim lead the rest of the way, getting a tip from Cambria Tisue and kill and Ace from Gray and a kill by Franklin to lead 21-18.
Leading 23-18, Megan Cook came out of a timeout with an ace and Lowry won the set two points later.
It looked as if the match was going to a fourth set, as Elko controlled the third set, leading 15-10 at one time.
The Lady Bucks cut the deficit to 16-15 after a kill by Jada Matheny and tied the set at 17 off a tip by Gray.
Lowry took the lead for good at 19-18 on another kill by Matheny and used three straight errors from Elko to push the advantage to 22-19.
Cook provided the winning point to give Lowry a season s weep over Elko.
The Northern 3A Regional Championships take place Friday and Saturday at the new Hug High School at Wildcreek Golf Course.
Truckee opens the tournament with either Elko or Spring Creek at 5 p.m. on Friday. That winner plays Dayton on Saturday at noon.
Lowry will play either Elko or Spring Creek at 7 p.m. on Friday. That winner plays South Tahoe, the Western 3A champion, at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. The championship is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The two finalists advance to the NIAA 3A State Championships on Nov. 11-2 at Clark and Rancho high schools in Las Vegas.
