Lowry High School senior Ivan Lara finished 10th at the NIAA 3A Regional Cross Country Championships and has qualified for the 3A State Championships this Saturday in Boulder City.
Lara finished in a time of 18 minutes, 7 seconds and was third quick among individual qualifiers.
Spring Creek senior Joel Herman won the individual championship at a time of 16:49, beating North Valleys’ Austin Key by six seconds.
Elko’s Braylon Baggett (17:02) was third and Spring Creek’s Nathan Thomas (17:09) and Jake Bradford (17:24) were fourth and fifth respectively.
Spring Creek won the regional championship team title with 27 points. Elko (65), North Valleys (75) and Truckee (95) also advance to the state championship as teams.
Fernley’s Kael Paz, Michael Fitzgerald and Levi Patterson, Wooster’s Atticus Reyher and South Tahoe’s Cooper Munson and Luke Amato qualified as individuals for the state meet.
In the 3A girls race, Spring Creek senior Kiely Munson won the regional championship in a time of 21:006.
South Tahoe freshman Lyla Landy was second at 21.166, followed by Elko’s Carly Nielsen (21:246), Reese Hatch (21.406) and Spring Creek’s Brianna Perchetti (21:497).
Spring Creek beat Elko 45-48 for the regional team title and South Tahoe (80) and Truckee (85) advanced to state as team as well.
North Valleys’ Taylor Dickey and Betzabhe Avendano, Fernley’s Myla Bott, Laila Kinnick, Brooklyn Harvey and Trinity Garcia and Dayton’s Allison qualified as individuals.
The NIAA State Cross Country Championships take place Saturday at Veterans Park in Boulder City.
