Battle Mountain High School’s Ivy Peterson and Lilly Peterson qualified for the NIAA 2A State Cross Country Championships, with their respective finishes at the 2A Regional Championships this past Friday at Shadow Mountain Park and Reed High School in Sparks.
Ivy, a freshman, placed 17th with a time of 26 minutes, 298.33 seconds and senior Lilly was 24th at 22:301.49.
North Tahoe freshman Niki Johnson won the individual championship at a time of 21:046, while Incline’s Lira Noble was the runner-up at 21:547. North Tahoe’s Annkia Johnson (22.097) and Kalena Steves (22:137) were third and fourth respectively and Sierra Lutheran’s Saige Gregory (22:237) was fifth.
North Tahoe won the regional championship team title with 14 points. Incline (34) and Sierra Lutheran (46) also advance to the state championship as teams.
Virginia City’s Kalia Anchors and Maya Manrique and Coral Academy’s Estefany Campos, Sophia Cortes-Burbano and Presley Tanner qualified as individuals for the state meet.
In the 2A boys race, Battle Mountain freshman Sean Doney finished with a time 21:276 and just missed out on a state berth.
Incline junior Noah McMahan won the individual title in a time of17:285. North Tahoe’s Graham Sniderman (18:426) and Isaac Martinez (18:526) were second and third, respectively and Wells Gonzalo Roque (19:036) and Whittell’s Logan Robertson (19:116) rounded out the top five.
North Tahoe beat Incline 19-35 for the regional team title and Sierra Lutheran (64) advanced to state as team as well.
The NIAA State Cross Country Championships take place Saturday at Veterans Park in Boulder City.
