The Battle Mountain NNA swim team was in Carson City from Oct. 21-23 for the 2022 King of the Hill Challenge.
King of the Hill is a 50-freestyle challenge throughout the meet this year there were 93 girls 93 boys ages 13 - 19 from 23 teams from Nevada and California.
They swim the 50 freestyle three different times during the meet each day, weeding down from 93 to 64 to 32 to 16 to 8 to 4 to the top two girls top two boys. This year NNA had the top two boys and one of the top 2 girls.
The state finals are Nov. 10- 13 in Henderson. Battle Mountain has five qualified in Zayne Hall, Nevaeh Serna, Sage Bakker, Shayne McMillin and Weston Reiva.
In Carson City, Serna placed fourth in the girls 11-12-year-old 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 42.56 seconds, which was a 7.33-second improvement.
She was fifth in the 12 and under 50-yard backstroke at 34.39 and ninth in the 50-yard butterfly (34.52) and 100-yard freestyle (1:08.21).
She added a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.60, was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:33.82), sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:22.65) and the 50-yards freestyle (29.70) and she finished 10th in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 42.36.
McMillin competed in the 13-18-year-old division and was 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:26.26, a 7.88-second improvement.
She took off more than 12 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley to finish 16th at 2:43.82. She made a 6.48-second improvement in the 100-yard backstroke to place 14th with a time of 1:15.12 and she was 43rd in the 50-yard freestyle at 28.97.
McMillin placed 14th in the mixed 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:28 and she finished 33rd in the 50-yard freestyle (28.65).
Zane Hall placed 14th in the boys 13-1`8-year-old 100-yard backstroke at 1:04.38.
He was 23rd in the 100-yard freestyle (57.01) and 25th in the 50-yard freestyle (25:00).
Michael Lovelace placed 16th in the mixed 500-yard freestyle in a time of 9:01.72 and was 31st in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:29.30, a 12.22-second improvement.
Daxon Bakker took off over 16 seconds in the boys 9-12-year-old 200-yard freestyle to place ninth in a time of 3:23.14. He finished 15th in the 50-yard breaststroke at 59.87.
Bakker placed ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:15.97, was 11th in the 100-yard individual medley (1:53.57), 13th in the 50-yard backstroke (50.13), 14th in the 50-yard freestyle (41.610 and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:34.33).
