Obituary: Robert “Bob” Valles

Robert “Bob” Valles, of Battle Mountain, Nevada, left this life at the age of 75 and started his eternal journey surrounded by his children and loved ones on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the University of Utah Hospital.

Bob was born on October 19, 1946, in West Orange, CA. He was raised by loving parents, Emilio and Mary Jaramillo in Battle Mountain, NV. Bob loved growing up in this town and made it his permanent home.

He graduated from Battle Mountain High School in 1966, where he participated in sports and played trumpet in band. He later formed his own band, “The Magnetics,” where he was lead singer and played electric guitar.

He was drafted shortly after high school, served his country in the U.S. Army, and returned home from Vietnam in 1969. He was a member of the V.F.W. Gary Cole Post #9165 where he enjoyed volunteering his time and participating in many events.

Upon returning home he started working in the mining industry. He learned the trade of welding and became a skilled fabricator, often designing gifts he would bring home to his children. He made his own weight equipment, batting tees, home plates, basketball hoops, etc. He could make just about anything and repair equipment that needed fixing. He worked in mill maintenance as a foreman and was able to travel abroad for new projects.

He was a funny man, always giving us a good belly laugh and sharing stories with anyone who would listen. Bob was compassionate and was always there to listen or help a person in need. He possessed many talents which included playing pool. He competed with his good friends in tournaments with the Silver Dollar Bar and continued to play for the rest of his life. Anyone who was up to challenge Bobby V to a game of pool, often walked away defeated.

He coached Little League for many years and later loved watching his kids and grandkids play ball. His hobbies included exercising, gardening, tending to his trees and yard, riding his Harley, barbecuing year-round and spending time with family. He would often be seen cruising around town, windows down with his dog on his lap. He also loved to draw/cartoon with pen and ink and had phenomenal handwriting.

His greatest achievements in life were his kids. Family meant the most to him and he ensured his love for them always. You could find Bob in the front row at any game showing his support.

He was preceded in death by parents Emilio and Mary Jaramillo, daughter Nicole Suzanne Valles, and grandchild “Baby” Valles.

He is survived by his children, Monique (Paul) Ramsdell, Tonia (Sean) Bakker, Ryan (Cori) Valles, Dominic (Chenae) Valles, Alex Valles and nine grandchildren, Brenden, McKenna, Carlee, Shea, Parker, Paxton, Daxon, Colin, and Saige.

Dad loved his community, and we know he will miss everyone who was a part of his life. “He taught us everything except how to live without him.”

Services will be held on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center. In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to the B.M. VFW Gary Cole Post #9165.
