Obituary: Mae Lavern Pierce

Mae Lavern Pierce passed away on May 13, 2022, at her home in Winnemucca after a long illness. She was born on October 31, 1938, in Brentwood, California to Aaron and Mary Huckaby. She was raised in California alongside her 7 siblings.

Mae moved to Winnemucca in 1959, where she lived for most of her life. She married her only love, Marion Leon Pierce and the two shared 52 years together until his passing in 2008. They shared 5 children, Leon Jr., Rebecca, Verdawn, Barbara, and Mary. 

She was a musician and singer in her husband's band, Leon Pierce and the Country Boys. She was a Deaconess in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Winnemucca. She loved helping with church functions, working in her yard and in her home taking care of family. She loved animals and in her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding. 

Mae is survived by her children, Leon Pierce Jr, Rebecca M. Pierce, Verdawn Pierce (Doug Westman), Barbara Pierce Harris (Paul Harris) and Mary K. Pierce. Her grandchildren, Debra Ann Whittaker, Walter Leon Boyd, Molly Miller, John W. Pierce, Erik Fernandez, David Kinsey, Amanda Ramirez, Sara Lockitt, and Robert L Pierce. She is survived by a multitude of great-grandchildren and her sister Lorena Pickelmann of Bakersfield, CA who is 101 years old!  

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Leon Pierce, her parents, Aaron and Mary K Huckaby, and six of her seven siblings, Richard Huckaby, Alvin Huckaby, Paul Huckaby, Maryann Brown, Margret Macatee, and Martha Huckaby.
