Obituary: Deborah Rae (Olson) Plascencia

Deborah Rae (Olson) Plascencia passed away on May 20, 2022, in Winnemucca, Nevada at the age of 65. She was born on August 11, 1956, in Newport, Washington to Ernest and Mickie Olson. 

She grew up in Priest River, Idaho. She married Elpidio Plascencia on August 18, 1984, the two shared 44 years, 2 children, 2 children from Elpidio’s first marriage and many memories together. 

Debbie and Elpidio moved to Beatty, Nevada in 1986 for Elpidio’s mining career. They lived there until 1999, when they moved to Winnemucca, Nevada. Throughout her early years and their moves, Debbie worked as a waitress. In 2000, she got hired on at Transystems, this started her career in mining. She went to work for Newmont in 2004 where she worked for 10 years. She took a break from mining to care for her grandchildren for a short time before going back to mining at Florida Canyon in 2014. She then moved on to SSR Marigold Mining in 2015, where she worked until she couldn’t any longer. 

She looked forward to retirement, traveling with her husband and spending much time with her loved ones making memories. Her greatest joys in life were her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She enjoyed taking good care of her home, watching her grandchildren play sports, crafts, projects around the home, drinking coffee with her friends, helping others, working hard and when she had some free time she enjoyed trying her luck in the casinos. She always shined so bright and lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by her husband, Elpidio Plascencia, her children, Marc Plascencia, Tawnya (Israel) Mendoza, her stepchildren, Sandra (Kurtis) Kay and Antonio Plascencia. Her grandchildren, Liliana, Jaedon, Juliana, Dominic, Damian, Lucius, Xavian, Heaven, Hope, Billy, Anthony, Kyhana, Gabriel, Zoey, and Gracie as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Pamela (Tom) Peterson and Darlene Olson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A lifetime of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mickie Olson. Her grandparents, James and Myrtle Low and Carl and Bertha Olson. Her sisters, Juanita Brazington and Cheryl Ann Olson. Her daughter in law Kristen Plascencia and her granddaughter Kayla Gray.

A Viewing will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Sonoma Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Winnemucca Convention Center – West Hall. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Humboldt General Hospital for the extraordinary care provided and will always be remembered by the family of Debbie. Thank you to all the family, friends and loved ones for your sympathy and kindness, we appreciate having you with us at our time of sorrow.
