Obituary: Jack Vincent Stant III

Jack Vincent Stant III passed away on May 13th, 2022 at the age of 61.

Jack grew up in Farmington, NM, where he met his first wife, Lisa (married 1983-2000).

They lived in Golden, CO, while Jack attended Colorado School of Mines, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering with a minor in Petroleum Refining.

After graduating, Jack was employed at Cholla Power Plant where he specialized in scrubber technology.

At this time, he became an active member of the Holbrook Elks Lodge, serving as Exalted Ruler (1996-1997).

During his time with the Elks, Jack participated in many volunteer activities including providing meals every Thanksgiving and Christmas, helping distribute gifts to children ensuring they would have a Christmas, and assisting with the Elks' scholarship program to provide a brighter future to others.

Jack included his daughters in many of his volunteer projects to teach compassion for others, the importance of caring for your community, and how to work together as a family. Go Team Stant!

In 2002, Jack moved to Laughlin, NV, to work at Mojave Power Station, and later, to Las Vegas, NV, where he continued to lead projects throughout the state.

He reveled in engineering and solving problems at power plants.

His love of his work eventually led him to Winnemucca, NV, where he brought decades of experience to Valmy Power Plant.

It was in Las Vegas, NV, that Jack met the love of his life, Evonne, and welcomed her children, Jessie and Jordan, and grandchildren, Cadence and Hunter, into his life. Jack and Evonne married in December of 2015.

Jack took pleasure in gardening, a hobby he shared with his father and eldest daughter.

There was always something fresh and tasty to eat, from artichokes to peaches, and never-ending salsa.

His fondness for motorsports and working on cars began as a teenager with the maintenance of his 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS.

Jack always had a car project in progress, and he enjoyed teaching others how to maintain and repair vehicles.

He also regularly attended NASCAR races with his family.

Jack loved spending time with his family. Weekends often consisted of lazy mornings, football, and BBQs. Go Pack Go!

Jack liked to grill and make chicken wings. During cold winter evenings, he would build fires so the kids could share popcorn and s’mores.

He enjoyed playing guitar and getting the family to sing along (Ah huh huh HUH huh huh HUH huh HUH, thun-DER).

Jack was passionate about sharing his understanding of math, physics, and chemistry with his daughters Nyssa and Monica, and grandson Hunter.

Jack was preceded in death this year by his mother, Irene Stant. Jack will be dearly missed by his wife, Evonne Stant, his father, Jack Stant Jr., his older sister, Catherine Burton, his four children, Nyssa Stant, Monica Stant, Jessie Mahaffey, and Jordan Jones, and his two grandchildren, Cadence Mahaffey, and Hunter Mahaffey.

Among the most important lessons Jack Vincent Stant III left with us:

“Life is beautiful.”
