Regional tournaments get going this week

The final high school regional tournaments of the school year get under way throughout Northern Nevada this week.

Lowry High School will host the Northern 3A baseball and softball regional championship, beginning Thursday and running through Saturday.

In softball on Thursday, Lowry takes on Elko at 10 a.m., with the winner to face Fernley at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. 

Churchill County takes on Spring Creek at 12:15 p.m. and the winner plays North Valleys at 4:15 p.m.

Elimination games take place on Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., with the championship semifinals at 2:30 p.m. 

A third elimination game will take place Friday at 4:45 p.m. The right to get into the title game is Saturday at 9 a.m. and the championship is slated for 11:30 a.m. 

If needed, a second title game will be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. 

The two teams in the championship advance to the state tournament in Fernley from May 19-21. 

In baseball on Thursday, Truckee takes on North Valleys at 9 a.m., with the winner to face South Tahoe at 2 p.m.

 Churchill County takes on Dayton at 11:30 a.m. and the winner plays Fernley at 4:30 p.m.

 in West Wendover

The Northern 2A Regional Baseball and Softball Championships will be in West Wendover on Friday and Saturday.

In softball, top-seed Yerington faces West Wendover at 10 a.m. and rivals Battle Mountain and Pershing County face off at 12:15 p.m.  

The losers of those two games play at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and the winners meet at 4:45 p.m.

The right to get in the title game is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the championship at 12:15 p.m. If needed a second title game will follow.   

The two teams in the championship advance to the state tournament at College of Southern Nevada in Henderson and Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas from May 19-21.

Track and field at Reed HS in Sparks

The Northern 1A/2A/3A/5A Regional Track and Field Championships will be at Reed High School in Sparks on Friday and Saturday. Action begins at 2 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

In Class 3A for both track and field events, the top four placers in each event from the Northern League and the top four placers in each event from the Southern Region meet automatically advance to the 2022 Class 3A state meet. 

In Class 2A and 1A for both track and field events, the top three placers in each event from the Northern Region and the top three placers in each event from the Southern Region meet automatically advance to the 2022 state meet. 

The remaining two state qualifiers will be determined by comparing the region meet final results and advancing the next best two marks per event, regardless of region affiliation and/or wind-aided marks.

The NIAA State Track and Field Championships will be held May 20-21 at Reed High School.



Regional swimming in Carson City

The Northern 3A and 5A Regional Championships will be in Carson City on Friday and Saturday. Swimming starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.

In both Class 5A and Class 3A, the top four individual finishers in each event, and the top four  relay teams in each event advance to the state championship meet in Las Vegas on May 20.



Boys Golf

The Northern 2A Regional Boys Golf Championships were held May 9 in West Wendover. Results were not available at press time. The state championships are May 16-17 in Henderson.

The NIAA 3A State Championships take place May 17-18 at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump.
