The regular season for the Lowry High School boys golf team and the rest of the Northern 3A came to a close last week at Genoa Lakes Golf Course with the South Tahoe High School tournament.
Truckee shot its second-best team score of the season at 329 to win the Northern 3A Championship.
The Wolverines won seven of the nine tournaments that were played this spring.
Fernley finished second at 343 and Lowry (360) was third with its second-best team total of the year. South Tahoe (366) and Churchill County (384) rounded out the top five.
Elko was sixth at 395 and Spring Creek (404) and Dayton (464) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
Truckee, Fernley and Elko qualified as teams for the NIAA 3A State Championships next week at Mountain Falls Golf Course in Pahrump.
Aided by Elko’s sixth-place finish in Genoa, the Buckaroos nearly caught the Indians for the third and final transfer spot at state but fell two points short (49-47).
Truckee’s Gabe Smith was the low medalist at 68 and was named the Northern 3A Player of the Year.
Fernley’s Noah Davis was second at 78, 10 strokes behind Smith and South Tahoe’s Liam Molesworth (79) placed third.
Fernley junior Kade Stanger was fourth with a round of 82 and Truckee junior Reed Loper finishing off the top-five with an 83.
Lowry senior Cal Peters, Fernley sophomore Jacob Holmes and North Valleys senior Easton Perez tied for sixth with rounds of 84 and Lowry sophomore Landon Esquivel finished ninth at 86.
Esquivel and Peters qualified for the state championships as individuals.
Molesworth (South Tahoe). Easton Perez and Derek Hester (North Valleys) and Andrew Smith (Dayton) also qualified for the state tournament.
Hunter Smith and Coda Nichols each shot 95 at Genoa Lakes and Hector Rivera (102) and Jack DeLong (109) rounded out the scores for the Buckaroos.
