Last week the Pershing County softball team played their rival school, Battle Mountain.
On Tuesday, April 26, the Mustangs hosted their rivals and beat them 7-6.
On Saturday in Battle Mountain, the results were mixed. The Mustangs won the opener 13-2 but lost the final game of the series 12-11.
Pershing County stands at 19-5-1 overall, and 14-4 in the Northern 2A.
On Tuesday, April 26, Aaliyah Allen and Taylor Garland each went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Allen handled the catching and Garland pitched, surrendering six runs on two hits over seven innings. She struck out 12 and walked eight.
They continued to perform well throughout the weekend.
“Aaliyah hit the ball really well and had minimal passed balls, and none that resulted in a run scoring,” said Jordan McKinney. “Taylor powered through both games on Saturday on the mound.”
This past Saturday, the Mustangs came out hitting and shined on defense, holding the Longhorns to two runs in the first game.
“The second game we moved some girls around and made some changes in positions,” said McKinney. “Unfortunately, being the home team worked to Battle Mountain’s advantage in the seventh inning.”
The Longhorns scored two runs and won the game.
On Tuesday, May 3, Pershing County hosted Mineral County.
On Wednesday, May 4, the Mustangs went back on the road against the Lowry JV. The results of these non-conference matchups were not available at press time.
This Friday, the Mustangs host Truckee for senior day beginning at 2 p.m.
The Mustangs say farewell to four seniors – Bela Rosas, Kassandra Swindlehurst, Sidonie Cassoret and Gabriela Denaldi.
On May 13-14 the Northern 2A Regional Championship is up for grabs in West Wendover.
The state tournament is in Las Vegas May 19-21.
