On Monday, June 6, the Winnemucca FFA officer team, Cooper Hill (President), Natalie Mori (Vice President), Mesa Brock (Secretary), Jacey Elordi (Treasure), Paris Collins (Reporter), Dante Cassinelli (Sentinel), Hannah Thompson (Historian), Jennifer Montero and Rebecca Hill (Advisors), visited the rural schools in Orovada, Kings River and Denio to help the elementary kids plant flowers and trees.
This was a collaborative effort between the Quinn River Conservation District, Forest Service, Winnemucca FFA Chapter and Natural Resources Conservation Service, in efforts to get the kids more involved in agriculture and introduce them to FFA and what the members do to help serve their community. By planting trees and flowers the Chapter members were able to help educate younger students about the importance of agriculture and teamwork as the FFA members and kids planted the flowers and trees together. These plants will grow and thrive as the kids take care of them to serve as a lesson of responsibility, as well as a memory of the program and what the kids did to help the environment.
The Winnemucca FFA Chapter is a nonprofit organization. Each Chapter member is enrolled in an Agriculture class at Lowry High School. The organization strives to develop skills and traits of leaders including critical thinking and teamwork, knowledge of the nation’s food supply, and hands-on experiences with multiple career development events.
