Humboldt County’s Huntley Byrd finished sixth in the final standings of pole bending at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo that concluded Saturday night in Perry, Georgia. There were 165 competitors in pole bending.
Byrd placed 20th in the first go-around with a time of 20.848 seconds and was 15th in the second go-around at 20.640. Those two times were good enough to qualify her for the short go-around, which was ran on Saturday night.
The Nevada state champion in pole bending, saved the best for last and was third in the short go-around with a time of 19.981 for a combined time of 61.469. Chaynee Slavin from Texas won the event at 60.843.
Lane Byrd placed 65th out of 141 competitors in boys goat tying with a two-run time of 31.61.
He had a time of 13.91 in the first go-around and 17.7 in the second.
He also placed 65th in boys breakaway out 101 riders that had a time in the event. He did not have a time in the first go-around, but bounced back to catch his calf at 4.32 in the second go-around.
He partnered with Jorja Mashburn from Battle Mountain in the ribbon robing and the duo were 75th out 114 with a time of 13.88. The duo had no time in the first go-around.
Byrd and partner Cade Stewart did not post a time in either performance of team roping.
Matti DeLong finished 42 out of 108 competitors in girls breakaway roping. She posted times of 3.66 and 22.64 to finish at 26.30.
She placed 54 out of 154 competitors in girls goat tying with an average of 25.41. DeLong posted times of 8.99 and 16.42.
DeLong placed 84th in barrel racing. She knocked down a barrel in her first go-around for a time of 21.587. DeLong bounced back in the second go-around to finish 15th in a time of 16.38.
Bryce Fears did not have a full eight second ride in bull riding and Logan Marshall did not post a time in tie-down roping.
Logan Lancaster from Austin and Pete Mori of Tuscarora were 28th in team roping with a time of 14.35. The duo did not have a time in the first go-around.
Eli Lancaster and Marianna Mori of Tuscarora were 33rd in team roping at 15.24. The duo did not have a time in the first go-around.
Lancaster placed 68th out of 132 competitors in chute dogging with an average of 43.00 seconds. He had a time of 28.92 in the first go-around and cut that in half in the second go-around to 14.08.
Lancaster and Quill Filippini from Eureka were 97th in ribbon roping with a time of 19.63. They did not record a time in the first go-around.
Craig Sciba of Victoria Texas was crowned the all-around cowboy and Stetson Cornman of Herrin, Ill., was named the rookie all-around cowboy.
Ella Kay of Iowa, La., was the all-around cowgirl and Lana Houck of Branch, Minn., was the rookie all-around cowgirl.
Texas won the team standings for both the boys and girls.
