The 2022 Run-A-Mucca Motorcycle and Music Festival presented an opportunity for motorcycle lovers to listen to great music, eat delicious food, visit unique vendors, and most importantly, to show off their one-of-a-kind machines.

The 20th annual bike show took place over Memorial Day Weekend and recognized bike owners, many of whom are locals, with awards.

Yvette Lighthouse, a Winnemucca local and first-time bike show participant, was awarded first place in the Vintage (for bikes from 1969 or later) category and received the People’s Choice Award (chosen by the other participants) at the show with her 1965 Harley Davidson Scat.

She was the only entry in the Vintage category, but was still very pleased to be honored with both awards.

Lighthouse said that the bike was built and restored by her late father, Ken Lighthouse, who had passed away Memorial Weekend two years prior, so the honor was particularly sentimental.

“It’s like the one way I can really relate to him. Just to honor him,” said Lighthouse.

Lighthouse said that she decided to enter the show after a neighbor encouraged her to do so, and it seemed like a great way to honor her father and the gift he left her when he passed.

“People always tried to buy it from him but he always said no because he restored it for me,” said Lighthouse.

The general rules for entering all categories of the bike show require that the bike be licensed and  operable, according to the event website, runamucca.com.

Lighthouse said that she had trouble starting the bike on the day of the show and had failed her permit test — for a Class M License — the first time she took it, but was both able to pass the permit test the week before the show and eventually get the bike started on the day of.

It was a major relief to meet all of the requirements to participate, according to Lighthouse.

“I knew when Dad would drive the bike around that people would admire it. I knew people would enjoy it,” said Lighthouse.
