Peter Bernhard
Nevada News Group Owner/Publisher
Effective the week of June 19-25 you will see the name of your newspaper is changing to the “Great Basin Sun.” For a variety of reasons, explained below, we are combining the print editions of the Humboldt Sun, Battle Mountain Bugle, and Lovelock Review-Miner. This is a change to the name of the printed edition only. You will still find the news from the Humboldt Sun, Battle Mountain Bugle and Lovelock Review-Miner on our website www.nevadanewsgroup.com. Email addresses, phone numbers and contact information will not change.
So why are we making the change to our print product? In mid-February the company that owns the printing press in Carson City closed. As a result, we were forced to move our printing to Tracy, Calif. as there are no commercial newspaper printing presses in northern Nevada. Print costs and production schedules have changed dramatically, and this was the most logical solution to continue to provide coverage to the communities.
We still will provide the same news coverage, but in a single newspaper as opposed to three. As pages are being consolidated and space may be more limited, we are also choosing to discontinue running mug shots on all of our For the Record pages. We will still provide arrest and court docket information, but photos will be omitted due to space limitations. Public records are always available at corresponding agencies.
As noted above, our websites have not changed; in fact, later this year we will be expanding the news and services we provide. More to come on that.
We appreciate greatly your continued support. Local news — news that affects you and your family on a daily basis — is what we do. Rural communities like Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, and Lovelock are not served by larger media operations. Facebook content is unedited and many times wildly incorrect. We provide edited content and a single print source of news and single website where you can go to find out what is happening in your community. We provide context to news stories and local government decisions.
Thank you for your continued support.
