700 images and 60 videos depicting child pornography found at Winnemucca couple’s home

In May of 2020, The Winnemucca Police Department received a Cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. This tip informed detectives that an individual/s in the Winnemucca area were involved in the storage of child pornography on a cloud-based system. Over the next several months, ICAC continuously received ongoing intelligence that specific phone numbers were storing multiple images of child pornography. During a nearly two-year investigation, two suspects were identified, Douglas and Andee Campbell of Winnemucca.

Winnemucca Police Department Detectives used evidence gathered to obtain a search warrant for the Campbell’s residence. On April 19, 2022 personnel from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security Investigation, Nevada Division of Investigation Drug Task Force, and the Washoe County Northern Nevada Cyber Center which is comprised of members from the Reno PD, Sparks PD, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and Nevada Attorney General’s Office executed the search warrant and discovered further evidence of child pornography.

Due to the evidence located, Douglas Campbell was arrested and charged with violations of the following NRS:

• Five (5) counts of 200.730 Possession of visual pornography of person under age of 16.

• One (1) count of 200.727.1a Use of internet to control visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of person under age 16.

• One (1) count of 200.725 Prepare, advertise or distribute material depicting pornography involving minor-Pornography/Obscene Material.

Bail was set at $160,000.

After digital devices, recovered at the Campbell residence, were processed through the Northern Nevada Cyber Center, Douglas was further charged with:

• Twenty-seven (27) counts of 200.730 Possession of visual pornography of person under age of 16.

• One (1) count of 200.725 Prepare, advertise or distribute material depicting pornography involving minor-Pornography/Obscene Material.

Douglas Campbell’s bail was increased to $500,000.

On May 23, 2022, Andee Campbell was then arrested and charged with three (3) counts of violating NRS 200.730 Possession of visual pornography of person under age of 16. Her bail was set at $60,000.

“A case like this is a challenge for any department because of the nature of the evidence,” officials said. “This investigation uncovered approximately 700 images and 60 videos depicting child pornography, all of which, our detectives had to look through to make sure to not overlook a possible piece of evidence. The investigation has not identified any local victims, but these images are of someone, somewhere’s children and they deserve justice. Also, the investigative work required to locate and properly seize this type of evidence is ever evolving and required our detectives to have to learn some new skills.”

“The help we received from The Washoe County Northern Nevada Cyber Center and The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was essential for the success of this case. We are thankful for their assistance. It really takes a lot of professionals working together to investigate a case like this properly. We want to thank Detectives Dunckhorst and Casalez for their tireless, emotionally exhausting work on this case,” officials said.
