Matti DeLong wins junior high all-around honors

Humboldt County’s Matti DeLong earned the all-around cowgirl honors this season in the junior high division of the Nevada High School Rodeo Association.

In addition, DeLong won the season-long barrel racing standing and is headed to the National Junior High School Finals Rodeo in Perry Georgia from June 19-25. 

DeLong entered the state finals in Winnemucca in first and after two strong performances in the second go (15.984 seconds) and 16.135 in the short go-around, she held on to her state title.

DeLong is headed to Georgia in goat tying as well, with a runner-up finish in goat tying. She was second in the first two performances of the state finals to allow her to keep her second-place finish. 

She qualified for the national finals in girls breakaway roping, after placing fourth in the final standings. 

DeLong won the first performance in the state finals in Winnemucca with a time of 4.12.   

DeLong and partner Wyatt Peek from Fallon qualified for the national finals in ribbon roping with a runner-up finish in the final standings. 

The duo won the first performance in Winnemucca and were second in the short go-around. 

DeLong qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in team roping and pole bending in Winnemucca from June 30-July 7.

Huntley Byrd qualified for the national finals with her state finals win pole bending. Byrd won the first two performances of the event in the state finals.

Byrd qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in barrel racing, girls breakaway, girls goat tying, team roping and ribbon roping. 

Brynn Barto qualified for the national finals in barrel racing after finishing fourth in the final standings. Barto won the first two performances of the event.

Barto qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo, with her sixth-place finish in girls breakaway roping and placing ninth in girls goat tying. 

She placed 10th in the final standings in pole bending and fifth in team roping with partner Maggie Van Norman.

Lane Byrd is headed to Georgia in boys breakaway roping with his third-place finish in the season-long standings. Byrd was fourth in the first performance of breakaway roping in Winnemucca.

Byrd and partner Jorja Mashburn from Battle Mountain qualified for the national finals in ribbon roping with a fourth-place finish. The duo was second in the first performance at the state finals.

Byrd and partner Cade Steward from Alamo finished fourth in team roping and qualified for the national finals. Byrd qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in boys goat tying.

Logan Marshall earned a fourth-place finish in tie-down roping and will be going to Georgia later in the month. 

He had two fourth-place finishes in performances in Winnemucca to move from fifth to fourth in the standings. Marshall qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in team roping, chute dogging and boys goat tying.

Bryce Fears qualified for the national finals in bull riding with his second-place finish. Fears was 11th in boys goat tying, 11th in chute dogging and 13th in boys breakaway roping.

Louise DeLong, Taylor Hill, Ben Marvel and Wyatt Thomas also qualified for the Silver State International Rodeo in Winnemucca.
