Battle Mountain NNA Swim Team starts long course season

The Battle Mountain NNA Swim team began its long course season at the 2022 Intermountain Classic from May 27-29 at the Carson Aquatic Facility in Carson City.

Coach Michelle Hall was very happy with her team’s performance. Weston Reiva is a new swimmer and Zayne Hall is back from knee surgery.

Nevaeh Serna had five first-place finishes on the weekend. 

She took off more than 12 seconds in the 12 and under 200-meter individual medley with a time of 3 minutes, 17.38 seconds.

She took home the top spot in the 10 and under 100-meter butterfly at 1:37.71. Serna won the 100-meter backstroke at 1:25.92, taking off nearly 10 seconds off her previous best time.

Serna led the way in the 50-meter freestyle at 39.52, a 2.73-second improvement and the 50-meter backstroke at 41.07, which was 4.34 seconds better than her previous best. 

She placed third in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:48.81, a 10.68-second improvement and she was third in the 50-meter butterfly (43.90), a 5.97 second improvement. 

Serna was fifth in the 50-meter breaststroke at 51.43.

Molly Riboux competed in the 13 and over division and had a time of 36.2o in the 50-meter freestyle, 1:52.40 in the 100-meter breaststroke, 3.11.72 in the 200-mneter freestyle and 6:44.72 in the 400-meter freestyle. 

She also had a time of 1:30.40 in the 100-meter freestyle.

Weston Reiva won the 200-meter freestyle in the 10 and under division with a time of 1:49.69. 

He was ninth in the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 41.26. Reiva finished fifth in the 50-meter backstroke at 49.21, was seventh in the 100-meter freestyle (1:36.76) and 14th in the 50-meter butterfly (1:02.05).

Michael Lovelace took part in the 13 and over division and had a time of 4:53.41 in the 200-meter individual medley. 

He stopped the clock at 48.30 in the 50-meter freestyle and 4:07.97 in the 200-meter freestyle. He had a time of 2:16.66 in the 100-meter backstroke.

In his return, Zayne Hall finished 30th in the 13 and over division in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:16.65, a 4.13-second improvement. Hall was 31st in the 50-meter freestyle (28.96) and 38th in the 100-meter freestyle (1:04.73).    

Saige Bakker finished second in the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 4:04.87, in a huge 30.80-second improvement. Bakker was the runner-up in the 50-meter backstroke in a time of 57.84, a 6.72-second improvement. She placed fifth in the 100-meter backstroke (2:09.22), fifth in the 50-meter backstroke (1:34.17) and fifth in the 50-freestyle (50.75), which was a 15.27-second improvement. She placed fourth in the 100-meter freestyle with a nearly 16-second improvement at 1:59.39.

Daxon Bakker placed sixth in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:55.08, taking off nearly 10 seconds. He had three 12th-place finishes in the 50-meter breaststroke (1:06.61), 50-meter freestyle (46.36) and 100-meter breaststroke (2:27.81), which was a 10.80-second improvement. He finished 10th in the 100-meter freestyle at 1:42.43, an 8.25-second improvement and Bakker placed 13th in the 50-meter backstroke at 55.65.

Battle Mountain is back in the pool June 17-19 in Reno for the Reno Gambler long course.
