Matt Fuller began by thanking Dave McLean, Lance Condie, Mike Brooks and Davis Murphy for coming out every week to help the PCHS track team improve. Windy, cold and rainy weather plagued the athletes until the end of the season. But it did not deter the coaches or team.
Kylee Fuller and Brayden Wagner lost the chance to compete at the state level during their sophomore year due to Covid. There was no state championship during their junior year.
According to Matt Fuller, that’s why they were thrilled to compete at state as seniors last month. Brayden Wagner threw the discus over 117 feet and placed fourth.
Kylee Fuller competed in the mile, the two-mile and the 300m hurdles. She placed third in the mile, third in the 300m hurdles and second in the two-mile race.
Kylee Fuller took home the Susie Smith sportsmanship award. Wagner earned the Sean Ward sportsmanship award.
Coach Fuller also introduced five freshmen – Grace Kalsem, Eudosia Mendoza, Efrain Aceves, Danny Jimenez and Luis Sanchez. Kalsem ran the 200 meters at the regionals. She set a personal best in the 200 meters this season. Mendoza competed in the 100m, 200m and long jump.
Efrain Aceves’ events included the long jump and 200m dash. Danny Jimenez competed in the long jump and 200m dash. He has expressed an interest in running a long distance race next year.
Luis Sanchez ran the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters. He narrowly missed making it to the state competition in the 400 meters. Sanchez says he wants to try again this next spring.
“We’re definitely proud of these guys and look forward to working with them again next year,” Fuller said.
