The Battle Mountain NNA swim team began its 2022 season with the Blizzard Blast at the Carson Aquatic Center in Carson City from Jan. 14-16.
Nevaeh Serna qualified for the 10 and under championships in Southern California.
Serna won a number of events on the weekend, including the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 54.29 seconds, which was an .81-second improvement.
She took nearly 1.5 seconds off her time in the 100-yard individual medley to win at 1:21.10; a second off her 50-yard backstroke time to win at 36.31 and she claimed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle at 40.25.
Serna earned the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:12.26 and won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:29.,29, a 3.55 second improvement.
She took nearly six seconds off her 100-yard backstroke time to win at 1:16.33 and Serna was at the top of the standings in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.05.
She was the runner-up in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 45.06, a 1.47-second improvement.
Saige Bakker competed in the 8 and under division and was second in the 25-yard backstroke at 22.92 and the runner-up in the 50-yard breaststroke, as she improved by nearly 17 seconds to finish at 1:23.46.
Bakker was second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 53.02, a 1.92-second improvement and second in the 25-yard freestyle at 20.92, nearly 17 seconds better.
She placed third in the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 34.99, was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:59.02), fourth in the 35-yard butterfly (31.53) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (51.43).
Daxon Bakker competed in the boys 9-10-year-old division and was seventh in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:53.40.
He was ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:42.98), ninth in the 50-yard backstroke (52.82), ninth in the 100-yard individual medley (2:05.88), 11th in the 50-yard breaststroke (1:09.96) and 12th in the 50-yard freestyle (46.01).
