Robert W. Thon, aka “Bobby” passed away on December 20, 2021 at the VA hospital in Reno after a brief battle with cancer.
His service in the United States Military as a Navy SeaBee and Army National Guard was very important to him.
He loved telling stories about his adventures during that time.
He worked for many years in several capacities in mining, especially operating heavy equipment.
He retired from Newmont Mining Company. Robert was also an amazing woodworker, specializing in rocking toys for children and refurbishing antique furniture.
It made his day when someone would come by to sit with him, share a cup of coffee and visit in his shop.
For many years he took joy in helping teach a weekly bible study, learning and sharing his knowledge.
Robert was known as the social butterfly of the family, taking time to talk with so many friends wherever he went. His goal was alayas to get a smile out of everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Darlene K. Thon; children Kari (Tom) Reiter, Robert (Connie) Thon, Echo Thon, Traci Jassman, Troy Jassman and Bob Campbell, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 2 pm at Winnemucca Christen Fellowship Church.
