On December 21, 2022, Donald V. (Don) Swanson passed away, joining his wife, Gloria, in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Don was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on May 16, 1929, to Edith J and Clarence E. Swanson.
His childhood was spent in Minnesota, and he joined the U.S. Navy in April 1948.
He enjoyed several deployments with the Navy through the Caribbean and was discharged in 1951.
Don was employed in the grocery business in Minnesota and the Bay Area of California at which time he met and married the love of his life, Gloria Backus.
They were married on December 4, 1959, in Pleasant Hills, California by Gloria’s cousin, Reverend Bill Backus.
In January of 1962, Don and Gloria moved to Winnemucca and he was employed by Sewells Grocery until 1967 at which time he was hired by Nevada Energy and its predecessors.
He retired in 1991 and he and Gloria made many winter trips to Arizona and Southern California. During the summers they visited many locations throughout the western states.
Don was a member of the United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Shrine & Tin Lizzies from 1965 and they enjoyed many trips with them through the summer months.
Don is survived by daughters, Sheri (Nick) Harris, Paula (Mike) Skinner, sons, Don and Mike, eleven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Having resided in Winnemucca since 1962, Don has made many lasting friendships and always treasured them.
There will be no funeral services and Don will be interred in Winnemucca with his dear wife, Gloria.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Pleasant Senior Center building fund at 1480 Lay Street in Winnemucca.
