McDermitt boys pick up first win of the season

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season this past weekend at the Super 8 Classic in Susanville, Calif.

Prior to the tournament, the Bulldogs traveled to Jordan Valley, Ore., on Thursday and lost 38-16.

Josh Northrup and Jeremiah Horn each had six points, Eli Northrup three and Kess Hinkey one.

In the first game of the tournament on Friday, McDermitt lost to the Trinity JV 51-37. 

Trinity opened up a n 18-8 lead in the first quarter and held that advantage throughout.

Horn and Eli Northup paced the Bulldogs with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Josh Northrup added five points, AJ Farmer three and Hinkey one.

In its first game on Saturday, McDermitt led from the start in a 56-46 win over the Herlong JV. 

The Bulldogs used a 14-7 run in the second quarter to lead 29-22 at the break. McDermitt led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Horn had his best performance of the season with 25 points, with Eli Northrup and Hinkey adding 15 and 14 points, respectively.

McDermitt closed out the tournament on Saturday with a 50-14 loss to Lassen. Eli Northrup netted nine points and Horn had five.

McDermitt (1-9) hosted Pyramid Lake on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. 

The Bulldogs open league play on Jan. 6 in Jackpot. McDermitt moves to Wells on Jan. 7.

McDermitt will be back home on Jan. 13-14 to host Owyhee and Carlin.
