On Friday, December 9, 2022, Judith Ann Gottschalk White (“Judy”) died after a brief illness in South Jordan, Utah.
She was blessed to have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by her side right before her passing.
She loved all things beautiful, including, flowers, trees, family, friends, Jesus, rides through the Lovelock valley and the Utah mountains, and her dogs.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Judy was born December 3, 1938, in San Francisco, California, to Arthur Letcher Gottschalk (“Art”) and Dorothy Alice Woodson Gottschalk (“Dorothy”).
She grew up in the small farming community of Lovelock, Nevada where she attended elementary and high school. She graduated from Pershing County High School in 1956.
She was always an advocate of the less privileged and saw every person as a child of God.
This showed through when she worked for several years as a teacher’s aide with the special education children at the elementary school and later as a deputy juvenile officer.
She influenced many lives for the better in those capacities and in her everyday living.
After high school, Judy waited tables at Felix’s, the local restaurant. Robert Dean White (“Bob”), of Winnemucca, Nevada was working on assignment for the Bell Telephone Company when he met Judy at Felix’s.
They were married in Reno, Nevada in December 1957.
Shortly after they married, Judy began studying nursing in San Francisco at the St. Francis Nursing School, while Bob served in the Army in De Ridder, Louisiana.
After being apart for six months, Bob asked Judy to leave nursing school and to join him in Louisiana. In February 1960, after two years in Louisiana, they moved to Winnemucca where their first son, Robert Letcher White (“Bobby”) was born.
They then moved to Lovelock where they could be close to Judy’s parents and other family members while Bob continued working for the phone company.
Two years after Bobby was born, Eugene David White (“Gene”) was born and two years later, Michael Dean White (“Michael”) was welcomed into the White family.
The “White boys” were the joy of Judy’s life. Bob passed away from illness in January 2007. During the interim, Michael moved back to Lovelock with his growing family until he passed away in April 1998.
After Bob’s passing, Judy remained in Lovelock where she enjoyed her hobbies such as quilting, ceramics, and spending time at the Senior Citizen Center.
She loved her friends and being with her dogs. In 2016, Judy began to experience more advanced symptoms of Dementia.
As a result, Judy reluctantly moved to Utah where she could be closer to Bob and Gene and their families.
Judy is survived by her sons, Bob White (Alice); Gene White (Karen), 35 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Art and Dorothy, her husband, Bob, and her son, Michael.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, at 10:00 AM at the Lovelock Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 220 Maple Dr., Lovelock, Nevada 89419.
The viewing will be held that morning from 9:00-9:45 AM at the church.
