A snowstorm interfered with some games at the Whittell tournament last weekend. However, the varsity girls finished their preseason in excellent spirits.
The Mustangs lost to Pyramid Lake 69-26 but beat Carlin 55-17.
“We played a very good Pyramid Lake team on Thursday and Carlin Friday morning,” said coach Lee Houston. “Pyramid Lake is one of those teams that can compete against large schools right now. They’re confident and talented.”
Senior Kaydance Happy led the scoring against the Lakers with eight points.
“We gained a lot of confidence against Carlin. Taylor Garland did a great job getting everyone involved running the point,” said Houston.
Kaydance Happy and Raegan Burrows led the scoring against Carlin with 14 points each. Garland and Kaylen Halverson each added eight points.
The Lady Mustangs stand at 5-2, overall. They have a couple of non-conference games coming up.
They travel to Smith Valley on Saturday, Dec. 17. Lovelock hosts Virginia City on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m.
The Mustangs beat Smith Valley 55-28 and Virginia City 49-11 at the Hawthorne tournament earlier this month.
