The Pershing County High School boys basketball team has one year of experience across the board but they’re showing steady improvement.
They finish up their preseason ranked 3-5. Two of their three wins happened this past week at the Whittell tournament.
Pershing County lost to Owyhee 59-24 on Thursday but bounced back the next day.
On Friday they beat Sacramento Country Day 54-50 and Westwood 74-28.
“We played a better weekend with some more bodies that came back. Kaden Chambers helped bring the interior defense we needed. We also brought two JV boys up to get some more playing time (Tyler Miller and Joe Hunt),” said coach Jesse Canchola.
“Size is our Achilles Heel but we get another returner back this Monday, Marshall Happy (6’6’’),” he added. “We have a lot to work on but there is a lot of promise.”
Pershing County hosted Pyramid Lake on Thursday, Dec. 15. Results were not available at press time.
This week the Mustangs have two non-conference games.
On Saturday, Dec. 17, the boys travel to Smith Valley. Wednesday, Dec.21, they’ll host Virginia City at 7:30 p.m.
