Longhorn boys split games with Panthers, Serpents

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team split a pair of games this past weekend at the Comstock Classic in Virginia City.

Battle Mountain beat Pahranagat Valley 49-31 this past Friday and lost 63-55 to Mineral County in its second game on Friday.

In the win over the  Panthers Jr. Vazquez paced Battle Mountain with 12 points, five assist and one steal.

Braden Wharenburg and Sage Holte each had eight points and Blake Stuart finished with six. Wharenburg added two blocks and five rebounds and Holte had three rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Chase Baum scored five points, Zayne Hall and Daniel Andrade four each and Lewis Strong two.

The games scheduled for Saturday in Virginia City were canceled after travel problems for some schools and a leaky roof in the gym.

Battle Mountain returns to action on Monday, Jan. 2, in Wells at 4:30 p.m. and Eureka on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 4:30 p.m. as well.

Battle Mountain opens Northern 2A play on Jan. 6, at home against Silver Stage at 7:30 p.m. 

The Longhorns host Yerington on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 3:30 p.m.
