Lady Bulldogs continue winning ways

The McDermitt High School girls basketball team continued its winnings ways this past weekend at the Comstock Classic in Virginia City.

The Lady Bulldogs rolled past the host Muckers on Friday afternoon, winning 58-11.

Freshmen Reign Crutcher more than doubled to the total of Virginia City with 24 points. 

She added two rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Vina Tom joined her in double figures with 11 points and had four steals, three rebounds and two blocks.

Sadie Hinkey netted seven points, Riata Palmer and Loni Tobey six each, Nicolette Northrup three, Kiarra Crutcher and Cierra Smart two each and Alexis Scott one. Tobey grabbed six rebounds and Hinkey and Scott each had four rebounds.

In its second game on Friday, McDermitt rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Coleville, Calif., the reigning 1A state champion, 66-60. It was the closest game of the year for the Lady Bulldogs.

McDermitt led 32-30 at halftime, when Coleville used a 19-15 run in the third quarter to go in front 49-47. The difference in the contest was the fourth quarter and a 19-11 run by the Lady Bulldogs to stay undefeated.

Tom and Reign Crutcher led McDermitt with 21 and 11 points, respectively. Scott added eight points, Northrup and Kiarra Crutcher seven each, Hinkey four and Tobey and Palmer two each. 

Tom and Northrup each had seven rebounds and Tom and Reign Crutcher added six and four steals, respectively.

McDermitt traveled to Jordan Valley, Ore., on Tuesday and results were not available at press time. McDermitt hosts Pyramid Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 4:30 p.m.
